I was seen by Dr Sutherland in relation to an anterior cervical decompression and fusion. I produced a letter from a previous procedure which indicated that I had problems with anastethia added to that in the intervening years I had been diagnosed with sleep apnoea. During the pre operation appointment Dr Sutherland clearly explained the procedure he was going to adopt as a result of my complications. As a result of his clear explanations I was in no doubt about what was going to happen during the anaesthetic part of my procedure which in turn took away a lot of the worry as Dr Surherland made it clear that the procedure adopted was primarily for my safety. True to his word the procedure went well and thankfully I have no recollection of it. Thoroughly professional individual who is obviously at the top of his profession.

I was very nervous about having an MRI Scan as I suffer from claustrophobia and had already failed at my first appointment to even get past the stage of getting the earphones on. It was with great trepidation I arrived at the hospital convinced that I would probably fail again. Dr. Sutherland spoke to me prior to me being taken down for the scan and completly relaxed. He answered all the questions and fears I had and I did not make me fail as if any of these were in any way silly. When I arrived for my scan he came in with me and explained in detail what he was going to do and once again made me feel totally relaxed. I cannot remember much about the scan but I have to say that after this experience I would not be afraid to go for another one, especially if Dr. Sutherland was the Anaesthetist.
